Highlights: renting a vehicle (convertible was a nice touch), sunrise at Haleakala, hiking through the crater of Haleakala and hitchhiking back to our car, lunch at the koola lodge, exploring and snorkelling the beaches from Kihei to the south, walking the main street in Lahaina and checking out the Banyan Tree, driving the road to Hana, hiking the Bamboo Forest near Kipahulu and on and on…
We booked a sailing trip. It was too windy to go to the planned location. It turns out this happens alot! The other snorkeling location was not great. Otherwise Maui was great.
April — Timing was great. Inexpensive airfare, great weather, not overcrowded.
Flew from Calgary to Maui on a direct flight. Picked up a pre arranged rental car from the airport. Then we were off…
3 days with a friend in South Kihei, 3 days inland near the cowboy/ranch area of Makawao and 3 days on the secluded East coast near Kipahulu.

On our typical eating schedule at home we have supper at 5:30PM. This falls under happy hour times at many restaraunts in Maui and you get some great food for half price. Some highlights were: sunset from the rooftop patio in Fleetwoods at Lahaina, supper at Mommas Fish House, buying fresh caught Tuna off Hamoa Beach.
Count on sun, wind & rain. If you travel to the top of Haleakala for sunrise, it will be cold. We forgot to bring sun hats.
When travelling Maui (or anywhere in Hawaii) there is an app that was indispensable. “Maui Revealed” which is an interactive guide book on your phone. It is awesome. And helped me plan and fit in the perfect amount and type of activities into our trip.
